October 25th, 2018 by

If you’re in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, why not use your free time to learn a new skill? There is plenty to do, such as taking a weekend class to get better at your math skills or learning to dance. Whatever you choose, you’ll love the feeling you get from learning something new while having fun.

Improve Your Math Skills
Every third Saturday of the month, the Roanoke Rapids Public Library has a math tutorial program they put on starting at 11 a.m. This is the place to come if you’re struggling in geometry, algebra, or trigonometry or if you just want to improve your skills. The class is open to any student who is in grade nine through twelve, and students from any high school are welcome to attend. If you have homework you’re stuck on or a particular area you can’t quite understand, you’ll feel much better after getting help at the library.

Learn a New Dance
If you’ve always wanted to get better at dancing, sign up for a dance class. There is a variety to choose from at Progressions Dance Center, including Mommy and Me ballet classes where both the mother and her 2-year-old get to dance together. They even get to put on a performance together at the end of the year. There are classes for ages 3 to 12 where they’ll learn ballet, tap dancing, and jazz skills. Those who are 13 years old and older can sign up for specific classes in Pointe, ballet, clogging, lyrical, tap, and jazz.

Enhance Your Art Skills
If you want an activity to do with friends besides the usual happy hour, sign up for a sip, paint, and party class. You’ll have the guidance of a local artist who walks you through painting a masterpiece as you enjoy your favorite snacks and drinks. Artists of all levels can attend this, even if you’ve never picked up a paintbrush in your life. This is a fun idea for a date night, a girl’s night out, or team building.

If you have at least eight people, you can reserve a party with a non-refundable fee of $50. The total cost includes the instruction, canvas, and any art material needed. They even have mobile parties for a fee where they’ll come to you instead.

Learn to Cook
If you’ve always wanted to learn to cook, there’s no better time than right now. Food Cures U offers a variety of cooking classes, such as learning how to cook healthy when you’re short on time. These are hands-on classes, so you’ll be making the food yourself and be able to taste the results of your hard work. They’ll give you great ideas for when you get back home and make you feel more confident in your own kitchen.

They also have classes on eating for weight loss where you’ll learn what foods are affecting you and your weight and why. They’ll teach you tricks on how to manage your weight and show you how to make meals that are good for you.
